Monsters University (2013) is an American animated comedy film produced by Walt Disney Pictures and Pixar Animation Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. As a child, Mike Wazowski visits the Monsters Inc. factory during a class field trip where he learns about the process of harnessing human children’s screams for energy to sustain the monster world. Despite being initially upset when sneaking into the human world through a door following a scarer at work, Mike is praised by the scarer, inspiring him to pursue a career as a scare himself. Fast forward twelve years later, Mike enrolls in the scaring program at Monsters University and is assigned Randall “Randy” Boggs as his roommate. He also meets James P. “Sulley” Sullivan, who happens to be the son of a renowned scarer. As classes begin, Dean Abigail Hardscrabble, the university president, warns the students that failing their first semester’s final exam will result in their permanent removal from the scaring program.
During the coming months, Mike makes a concerted effort to better himself through hard work and dedication, while Sulley teases him and relies on his family name and natural abilities. Together, they strive to secure membership in the prestigious fraternity RΩR (Roar Omega Roar) on campus. A fierce competition arises between Mike and Sulley. On the day of their examination, their rivalry reaches a boiling point as they each try to outdo the other. Inadvertently, they destroy Hardscrabble’s prized scream canister. As a result, she personally evaluates and finds both of them lacking: Sulley for rushing and lacking technical knowledge, and Mike for not possessing enough physical ‘scariness’.
