In 2009, DreamWorks Animation produced and Paramount Pictures distributed Monsters vs. Aliens (2009), an American animated sci-fi comedy film. Before her wedding to local weatherman Derek Dietl in Modesto, California, Susan Murphy is hit by a meteorite from a destroyed planet which causes her to transform into a 50-foot giantess with white hair. The incident leads to the destruction of the church where the ceremony was taking place and Susan is subsequently captured by a U.S. military group. She wakes up in a secret government facility for monsters where she meets General W.R. Monger and her fellow monster inmates: Dr. Herbert Cockroach Ph.D., B.O.B., Missing Link, and Insectosaurus – all of whom have also been affected by various mutations or experiments gone wrong.

After being renamed by the government, ‘Ginormica’ is cut off from all communication with her loved ones. Meanwhile, a squid-like alien leader, Gallaxhar, on board a mysterious spaceship, learns of a valuable substance called ‘quantonium’. In response, he sends a massive robotic probe to retrieve it. The probe crash-lands on Earth and the President of the United States makes an attempt at communicating with it using music, but the probe begins wreaking havoc and heads straight for San Francisco. Despite the U.S. Armed Forces’ best efforts to destroy it, the robot remains unscathed. Upon persuasion from Monger, the President agrees to grant freedom to the monsters if they can stop the destructive probe. In San Francisco, the robot targets Ginormica upon detecting quantonium within her body. The group successfully destroys the giant robot using parts of the Golden Gate Bridge itself.
