Mr. Harrigan’s Phone (2022) is an American horror drama film written and directed by John Lee Hancock, based on Stephen King’s novella from the collection If It Bleeds. In 2003, Craig’s mother passes away and he strikes up an unexpected friendship with retired businessman John Harrigan, who asks him to read to him three times a week. As time passes, the two become even closer despite the age gap. Craig starts high school and bonds with his teacher Ms. Hart when a bully named Kenny Yankovich tries to intimidate him. Thanks to a lottery ticket given to him by Harrigan, Craig wins $3,000 and receives his first iPhone as a Christmas gift. Impressed by the technology, he decides to get one for Harrigan as well, who eventually warms up to it and enjoys using it too.
After the passing of his dear friend, the late Harrigan, Craig is overcome with grief. During the funeral service, he discreetly places Harrigan’s phone in the casket. Shortly after, he learns from one of Harrigan’s colleagues that he has been included in the will. Craig will receive a generous sum of $800,000 through a trust fund, to support his education and writing aspirations – something he had previously shared with Harrigan. In gratitude, Craig dials his late friend’s number as a token of appreciation. However, when he wakes up the next day, he notices an unusual message from Harrigan. His father dismisses it as a glitch with the iPhone itself.
