Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005)
Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005) is an American action comedy film directed by Doug Liman and written by Simon Kinberg, following the story of John and Jane Smith. The couple, who have been married for five or six years, attend marriage counseling to address their troubled relationship. Despite their initial claims of meeting in Bogotá, Colombia and falling in love, it is revealed that they are actually highly skilled field operatives working for separate contract-killing firms. They have successfully kept their true professions hidden from each other. The Smiths live in a large Colonial Revival house in the New York suburbs and maintain a facade of normalcy by reluctantly mingling with their wealthy neighbors.
Beneath their cover stories, John and Jane navigate their marriage, which has grown tiresome and suffocating over the years, alongside their secretive careers. However, when they are both given the task of eliminating DIA prisoner Benjamin ‘The Tank’ Danz during a prison transfer, fate brings them face to face on the job. Unfortunately, their mission goes awry and Danz survives, resulting in a new order for John and Jane to terminate each other instead. As things escalate between them and tensions rise, a massive shootout erupts at their house. In a prolonged and evenly-matched battle, they both take aim at each other with guns in hand. But in a surprising turn of events, John puts down his weapon, confessing his love for Jane.
