However, Mushu’s excitement is short-lived as the ancestors warn him that if Mulan marries Shang, they will become her guardians and he will lose his job. The Emperor summons Mulan and Shang and informs them of the Mongols’ threat to China. To strengthen their defenses, he plans to form an alliance with Qui Gong by marrying his three daughters, Princesses Ting-Ting, Mei, and Su, to Qui Gong’s princes. He assigns Mulan and Shang with the task of protecting them on their journey. Despite her reservations about arranged marriage, Mulan agrees to the mission.
With the princesses in tow, Mulan and Shang join forces with their friends Yao, Ling, and Chien-Po to journey towards Qui Gong. However, Mushu, determined to maintain his role as guardian, meddles in their relationship because he doesn’t think Mulan and Shang are a good match. Meanwhile, Cri-Kee tries to stop Mushu’s interference. As Mushu continuously attempts to disrupt Mulan and Shang’s bond, he accidentally destroys the carriage the princesses were riding in. Now on foot, Mulan and Shang bicker briefly about which way to go and their respective duties. Seeing an opportunity to create further tension between the couple, Mushu manipulates Shang into believing that Mulan is unhappy with him.
