My Best Friend’s Girl (2008) is a comedic flick directed by Howard Deutch. Sherman ‘Tank’ Turner has a unique side job as a ladies’ man and professional help-line operator. His specialty? Assisting men in rekindling their relationships by taking their significant others on disastrous dates. Tank’s tactics involve acting like a rude and uncouth Neanderthal, causing the women to realize that their exes may not be so bad after all and return to them. Tank lives with his step cousin Dustin, who happens to have developed feelings for a co-worker named Alexis. Despite confessing his love during a date, Alexis insists they remain friends. Afterward, Dustin confides in Tank, who kindly offers to lend his assistance as a trusted friend – free of charge. Though initially hesitant, when he sees Alexis flirting with someone else the next day, Dustin begs Tank to take her out and he agrees without hesitation.
After Tank and Alexis bump into each other, they make plans to hang out. However, he behaves in a rude manner all evening. Despite this, she is too intoxicated to mind. When he drops her off, she expects him to come inside, but he declines out of loyalty to Dustin. Alexis contacts Dustin, but during their meeting, she reveals that her date with Tank has inspired her to see other men. In an attempt to make amends, Dustin sends Alexis roses and a poem written by Tank. She calls him back and scolds him for leaving early the previous night. Eventually, Tank visits her and they begin engaging in casual sexual activity while Dustin desperately tries to maintain their friendship. As Dustin prepares for a date with a single mother, he arrives at her place only to find her breastfeeding her child. Trying to be humorous, he jokes about wanting what the baby is having.
