My Life (1993) is an American drama film written, directed and co-produced by Bruce Joel Rubin. Bob Ivanovich, a young Ukrainian-American, prays one night for a circus to be erected in his backyard the following day. After school the next day, he eagerly runs home with his friends, hoping to see the circus. However, they are all disappointed to find that there is no circus. Feeling angry, Bob retreats to his personal space in the closet in his room. He has distanced himself from his Ukrainian-born parents due to their customs and traditions, which led him to change his last name to Jones and move away from his family in Detroit. Now, 30 years later, Bob Jones runs a successful public relations firm in Los Angeles and is happily married to Gail.

They are expecting their first child together. But things take a devastating turn when Bob is diagnosed with terminal kidney cancer and might not survive long enough to see their baby born. Bob embarks on creating home movies to leave a lasting legacy for his son, showcasing skills like cooking spaghetti and driving. Alongside this project, he consults the wise Mr. Ho, who advises him to heed his heart’s desires. It beckons him towards forgiveness and reminds him that life offers constant opportunities if only he listens. Acting upon his wife’s suggestion, they travel to Bob’s hometown Detroit for his brother Paul’s traditional Ukrainian wedding. During their stay, Bob also pays a visit to his childhood home. In an attempt to reconcile with his distant relatives, things go awry.
