No Exit (2022)
The American thriller film, No Exit (2022), directed by Damien Power and written by Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari, is adapted from the 2017 novel of the same title by Taylor Adams. Darby Thorne, a recovering addict, receives news that her mother has been hospitalized for a brain aneurysm and is in critical condition. She leaves rehab and heads to Salt Lake City. While on the road, Corporal Ron Hill informs her of a blizzard causing the interstate closure. Darby agrees to spend the night at a nearby visitor’s center where she encounters Ash, Lars, and married couple Ed and Sandi. When she steps outside to search for cell service, she stumbles upon a kidnapped girl in one of their vans.
While playing Bullshit, Darby cleverly utilizes her knowledge of the van’s license plate to interrogate the group and determines that Lars is the kidnapper. She then sneaks back outside through a hole in the bathroom wall. Breaking into the van, Darby assures the captive girl, who is revealed to be named Jay by Lars upon his entry, that she will rescue her. Meanwhile, Ed becomes suspicious of Lars’s odd behavior. As Lars leaves to bring Jay some food, Darby returns inside via the hidden passage in the wall. It is then revealed that Jay suffers from Addison’s disease, which can have serious consequences if she experiences too much stress or adrenaline. In the restroom, Darby confides in Ash about Jay’s condition and enlists their help in saving her.
