No Strings Attached (2011) is an American romantic comedy film directed and co-produced by Ivan Reitman. Following their initial meeting at summer camp, Emma Kurtzman and Adam Franklin have a few chance encounters before drifting apart. Years later, they reconnect as individuals with their own respective careers – Emma as a doctor in Los Angeles and Adam as a production assistant on a musical television show. However, when Adam discovers that his father Alvin – a former star of a popular comedy series – has begun dating his ex-girlfriend Vanessa, he turns to alcohol and calls all of his female acquaintances for comfort. The next morning, Adam wakes up on Emma’s couch, much to the amusement of her friends and coworkers who tease him for crying and passing out naked. As she helps him look for his lost pants, they end up having sex.
After their initial encounter at Adam’s house, Emma and he agree to a casual and intimate arrangement. However, as time passes, Adam’s feelings for Emma intensify and he becomes envious of her colleague Sam. Despite Emma feeling uncomfortable with his advances, Adam persistently pursues her. Eventually, Emma decides to end the agreement but realizes she misses him. While inebriated, she ends up spending the night with him again. On his birthday, Adam’s father reveals his desire to have children with Vanessa. Disgusted by this revelation, Adam storms out and is defended by Emma. Later on, Adam asks her out on Valentine’s Day which initially seems perfect until Emma awkwardly confesses that she is not interested in a committed relationship.
