No Time to Die (2021) is the latest installment in the James Bond franchise, marking its twenty-fifth film produced by Eon Productions. Madeleine Swann, as a young girl, witnesses her mother’s murder at the hands of terrorist Lyutsifer Safin. Safin’s family was previously assassinated by Swann’s father, Mr. White, under orders from Ernst Stavro Blofeld. In self-defense, Swann shoots Safin and escapes but falls into a frozen lake where Bond rescues her. Years later, after Blofeld’s arrest, Swann joins Bond on a trip to Matera where she convinces him to visit the grave of his former lover Vesper Lynd. During their visit, they narrowly escape an explosion set up by Spectre operatives led by Primo, a mercenary with a bionic eye. However, their relationship ends when Bond believes Swann may have betrayed him. Five years later, Spectre agents steal Project Heracles – a programmable DNA-targeting nanobot bioweapon developed under M’s oversight – from MI6 scientist Valdo Obruchev in London.
In retirement on the island of Jamaica, Bond receives a request for assistance from Felix Leiter, a CIA ally, and Logan Ash, a State Department agent. They want him to help extract Obruchev from a Spectre party in Cuba. At first, Bond declines but after being warned by his successor Agent 007, Nomi, not to interfere with her own mission to extract Obruchev and with the help of M, who is unwilling to share information about Heracles, he eventually agrees. With the assistance of Paloma, a Cuban agent working with Leiter, Bond infiltrates the party. Spectre leader Blofeld observes from Belmarsh prison through Primo’s bionic eye as he disperses nanobots into the air to kill Bond. However, Obruchev had secretly reprogrammed the nanobots under Safin’s orders to eliminate Spectre members instead. Using Paloma’s support and outmaneuvering Nomi, Bond successfully brings Obruchev to Ash and Leiter aboard a trawler.
