No Way Out is (1987) an American neo-noir action thriller film directed by Roger Donaldson. In a house near the Pentagon, Lieutenant Commander Tom Farrell of the Office of Naval Intelligence undergoes questioning about his connection with Secretary of Defense David Brice. Six months prior, Farrell attends an inaugural ball at the invitation of his college friend Scott Pritchard. There, he meets Secretary Brice and develops an affair with Susan Atwell. Shortly after, he departs for the Philippines. Upon returning, Brice recruits Farrell to gather information for him within the CIA. As he settles into his new role in Washington, D.C., Farrell reconnects with his former landlord and friend Sam Hesselman at the Pentagon’s computer center. Despite Atwell revealing she is also involved with Brice, her tryst with Farrell continues. Their romantic weekend ends abruptly when Brice shows up unexpectedly and forces Farrell to leave discreetly.

Suspicious that Atwell has another lover, an enraged Brice accidentally pushes her over an upstairs railing to her death. He turns to Pritchard for help, who successfully removes any trace of Brice’s involvement in Atwell’s death. In the process, Pritchard discovers a negative of a photograph Atwell took of Farrell, but it is impossible to discern what it shows. Pritchard suggests that this could implicate a long-rumored KGB sleeper agent known as ‘Yuri’, potentially clearing Brice from suspicion. Meanwhile, Army CID officers are searching Atwell’s apartment and Pritchard plants the photo negative among the evidence. Hesselman attempts to enhance the photo using computer technology, but this may take some time.
