Notting Hill (1999)

Notting Hill (1999), a romantic comedy directed by Roger Michell, features a screenplay by Richard Curtis. It follows the story of William Thacker, owner of a travel book store in the vibrant Notting Hill district of London. Following his divorce from his wife, who had left him for another man, he shares an apartment with Spike – his carefree and rather messy Welsh roommate. One day, fate brings famous Hollywood actress Anna Scott into William’s shop, where she purchases a book. As she leaves, however, a mishap causes her to cross paths with William again – this time resulting in her getting covered in his juice. In order to clean up the mess, he invites her to his flat across the street and while there, she impulsively kisses him before leaving. Later on, she surprises him with an invitation to join her at the fancy Ritz Hotel. Unfortunately for William, upon arriving he is mistaken for a reporter and ends up being taken to a press conference for Anna’s latest film.
When questioned about his profession, he claims to write for Horse & Hound magazine. After this encounter, Anna asks to be William’s date at his sister Honey’s birthday party that evening. Despite the shock of his loved ones, Anna seamlessly interacts with everyone around her and has a good time. Later on, they visit a secluded park, where she once again shares a kiss with Will. The following day at a restaurant, the couple overhears six men at a nearby table talking about Anna, first complimenting her and then insulting her by comparing actresses to prostitutes. Will stands up to them and Anna confidently introduces herself before cleverly putting down the startled group of four. She invites Will to her hotel room, but he abruptly departs after finding out that her movie star boyfriend, Jeff King, has unexpectedly shown up from the United States.
