Ocean's 11 (1960)
Directed and produced by Lewis Milestone, Ocean’s 11 (1960) is an American heist film based on a story by George Clayton Johnson and Jack Golden Russell. The plot follows World War II veterans Danny Ocean and Jimmy Foster as they assemble a team of nine comrades from their unit in the 82nd Airborne Division for a high-stakes mission: to simultaneously rob five Las Vegas casinos, including the Sahara, the Riviera, the Desert Inn, the Sands, and the Flamingo. From left to right: Lester, Bishop, Davis, Sinatra, and Martin. The group meticulously plans their heist with military precision as Josh Howard disguises himself as a sanitation worker and others secure jobs at the targeted casinos. Meanwhile, Sam Harmon performs in one of the hotel lounges.
As part of their elaborate scheme, demolition charges are planted on a nearby electric power transmission tower while each casino’s backup electrical systems are secretly rewired to open the cashier cages when necessary. With everything in place, the men strike at midnight on New Year’s Eve when the tower is blown up and the Las Vegas Strip goes dark. As Josh, the operator of a garbage truck, collects the bags and drives past a police blockade, everything seems to have gone smoothly. However, in the midst of it all, Tony Bergdorf – the gang’s electrician – suddenly suffers a fatal heart attack on the Strip. This event sparks suspicion among the authorities who question if it is linked to the recent thefts. In an unexpected turn, former mob member Duke Santos offers to retrieve the stolen money for a cut of the profits.
