Ocean’s 8 (2018) is an American heist comedy film directed and written by Gary Ross and co-written by Olivia Milch. Recently released from prison, master schemer Debbie Ocean, who happens to be the younger sister of Danny Ocean, enlists her former partner in crime Lou to help her pull off a new heist. They assemble a team consisting of once-successful fashion designer Rose Weil, who is now in debt to the IRS; jewelry maker Amita, seeking more independence from her controlling mother; tech expert Nine Ball; street-smart pickpocket Constance; and suburban housewife Tammy, who discreetly sells stolen goods. Their target? The $150 million Cartier necklace known as the Toussaint, which they plan to steal during the high-profile Met Gala with the unwitting assistance of famous actress and host Daphne Kluger. To pull off their plan, they manipulate Daphne into hiring Rose and convince Cartier to loan her the prized necklace. While Rose and Amita head over to Cartier to scan the necklace digitally and create a convincing cubic zirconia replica.
Nine Ball devises a way to blind the museum’s security cameras, allowing them to move the necklace. Tammy lands a job at Vogue and gains access to the seating plan for the gala, while also getting Lou hired as a nutritionist. Meanwhile, Debbie convinces Daphne to invite Claude Becker, the art dealer who betrayed her and led her to prison, as her date. Though Lou is hesitant about Debbie’s revenge plan against Becker, Debbie ensures it will not affect their overall goal. However, they discover that the Toussaint necklace can only be unclasped with a special magnet held by Cartier’s security team. Nine Ball enlists Veronica, her younger sister’s help in creating a replica of the magnet. At the gala, Lou spikes Daphne’s soup causing her to rush to the restroom. With Cartier guards outside and Daphne indisposed in a nearby stall, Constance cleverly removes the necklace and passes it to Amita who turns it into smaller pieces of jewelry in the kitchen bathroom.
