Ocean’s Twelve (2004) is a heist comedy directed by Steven Soderbergh and written by George Nolfi. Terry Benedict tracks down all eleven members of Danny Ocean’s crew, demanding the return of the $160 million they stole from his casinos plus an additional $38 million in interest. The deadline for repayment is two weeks. With only half of the money on hand, the group devises a plan to pull off a heist in Amsterdam to avoid trouble with authorities in the United States. A man named Matsui tips them off about the whereabouts of the first ever issued stock certificate. Despite their elaborate schemes, they soon discover that master thief ‘Night Fox’ has beaten them to it. Enter Europol detective Isabel Lahiri, who investigates the theft and realizes that she had unknowingly given Rusty the idea for solving a complication during their past relationship when she shared details about a similar burglary she encountered.
Surprising the group at their accommodation, she warns them that the Night Fox and his mentor, the mysterious master thief known as ‘LeMarc’, excel in what is known as the ‘long con’. She then proceeds to steal Rusty’s phone. Having been on their trail for years, she reveals that both targets have evaded her thus far. However, Danny and his crew soon discover that the Night Fox is actually François Toulour, a wealthy French baron and gentleman thief with a luxurious villa on Lake Como. In a bold move, Danny decides to break into Toulour’s villa and steal his prized paintings. When Toulour is confronted about his actions, he confesses to exposing their identities to Benedict and enlisting Matsui to inform them about the stock certificate in order to meet with Danny. Outraged at LeMarc’s suggestion that Danny may be a better thief than him, Toulour challenges him to steal the elusive Imperial Coronation Fabergé Egg.
