The Pixar short film One Man Band (2005) was a hit at the 29th Annecy International Animated Film Festival in France and took home the Platinum Grand Prize at the Future Film Festival in Italy. Bass, a skilled street performer, played his wind and percussion instruments in an abandoned Italian village square, hoping for a tip in his rusty iron cup. His routine was interrupted when he noticed Tippy, a peasant girl with a gold coin, about to make a wish by tossing it into the plaza fountain. Immediately seizing the opportunity, Bass played an impromptu piece that caught Tippy’s attention. However, just as she was about to give him her coin, another performer arrived on the scene – Treble. With his suave style and flashy string instruments, Treble outshone Bass and captured Tippy’s attention instead. But Bass wasn’t about to be outdone – he upped his game and Treble followed suit.
As the two musicians engage in a battle for Tippy’s attention, she is overwhelmed by their chaotic sounds. In the midst of it all, she drops her coin into a drain and it disappears into the village sewers. Disheartened, Tippy asks Treble and Bass to reimburse her for the lost coin. However, they are unable to do so. Taking matters into her own hands, Tippy begins playing Treble’s violin and using Bass’s iron cup in an attempt to earn back her money. Much to her surprise, a passerby drops a bag of gold coins into the cup while she plays with expert skill. Overjoyed, Tippy retrieves two coins from the bag and heads towards the fountain, but not before teasingly tempting Treble and Bass with them.
