Only You (1994)
The American romantic comedy film, Only You (1994), directed by Norman Jewison, follows the story of 11-year-old Faith Corvatch. After playing with a Ouija board alongside her brother Larry, Faith becomes convinced that her soul mate is named ‘Damon Bradley’. This belief is further solidified when a carnival fortune-teller predicts that she will marry a man with the same name. Fast forward fourteen years, and Faith is now a teacher at a Catholic school, engaged to a podiatrist. However, just ten days before the wedding, Faith discovers that her fiancé’s high-school classmate, Damon Bradley, is en route to Venice. Determined to meet him and confirm her fate, Faith embarks on a journey with her sister-in-law Kate from Pittsburgh through Venice and the Italian countryside all the way to Rome. Despite their efforts, they continually miss Damon along the way.
Faith encounters a young American and initially shows no interest in him until he introduces himself as Damon Bradley. The two share a passionate evening and fall deeply in love. However, Faith’s happiness is short-lived when the man reveals his true identity as Peter Wright, causing her to storm off angrily and prepare to go back home. In the meantime, Kate has been charmed by a smooth Italian businessman named Giovanni. The following day, Peter informs Faith that he spent the night searching for Damon, only to discover that he has moved on to Positano. In a kind gesture, Giovanni offers to drive all three Americans there. At an upscale hotel, Faith finally comes face to face with Damon – a charming and attractive playboy – who she invites to join them for dinner.
