Pacific Rim Uprising (2018) is an American science fiction film featuring monsters. Directed by Steven S. DeKnight, the movie marked his first time as a feature-film director and writer. Collaborating with Emily Carmichael, Kira Snyder, and T.S. Nowlin, DeKnight brings to life a story set in the year 2035 – exactly 10 years after the Battle of the Breach. This battle saw the closure of an inter-dimensional portal used by the Precursors to send destructive Kaiju creatures to Earth. We meet former Jaeger pilot Jake Pentecost – son of renowned hero Stacker Pentecost – who now earns a living by scavenging and selling Jaeger parts on the black market in Los Angeles. When he follows a lead on a disabled Jaeger power core to the secret workshop of eager 15-year-old Amara Namani, both end up getting arrested by the Pan-Pacific Defense Corps (PPDC) after her solo Jaeger Scrapper gets into a scuffle with Police Jaeger November Ajax.
A holographic transmission from Jake’s adoptive sister and PPDC Secretary General Mako Mori convinces him to rejoin the organization as an instructor, alongside new recruit Amara. It has been a decade since the world was invaded by interdimensional creatures, and their defeat was only made possible through the use of massive Jaeger machines and the heroism of Stacker Pentecost. Now, his son Jake struggles to carry on his father’s legacy while serving as a Jaeger trainer. However, their hard-earned peace is about to be disrupted as a threat arises to reopen the breach and unleash the creatures once again.
