Paddington (2014), a live-action animated comedy film, was written and directed by Paul King. Based on Michael Bond’s beloved character Paddington Bear, the story was developed by King and Hamish McColl. In the depths of the Peruvian jungle, a British explorer comes across a group of bears with a love for marmalade. He dubs them Lucy and Pastuzo before bidding them farewell with an invitation to London. Forty years later, after their home is destroyed in an earthquake, the two bears seek refuge with their orphaned nephew. Unfortunately, Pastuzo does not survive the disaster and Lucy encourages her nephew to travel to London while she settles into a retirement home for bears. The young bear arrives in London after stowing away on a cargo ship and finds himself at Paddington Station where he is welcomed by the Brown family. They take him in and name him after the station where they found him.
While Henry Brown remains skeptical, Paddington’s charm wins over his wife Mary, their two children, and even their housekeeper Mrs Bird. In the hopes of finding a new home with the explorer who once knew his family, Paddington makes the journey to London. However, he doesn’t know the explorer’s name. With Mary’s help, he seeks out Samuel Gruber, a local antique shop owner who uncovers that Paddington’s distinctive hat belongs to the Geographers’ Guild. Through further investigation at the Guild archive, Paddington discovers that an expedition to Peru was led by a man named Montgomery Clyde. Strangely enough, all records of this voyage were erased by the Guild. On another front, Millicent Clyde works as a taxidermist at the Natural History Museum, killing and stuffing exotic creatures for display. As soon as she learns of Paddington’s existence, she sets her sights on capturing him for her collection.
