Paddington 2 (2017)
The comedy film, Paddington 2 (2017), directed and written by Paul King and Simon Farnaby respectively, is a live-action animated sequel to the 2014 movie Paddington. Produced by Heyday Films and StudioCanal UK, it is based on the beloved stories of Paddington Bear by Michael Bond. The lovable bear, now living with the Browns in Windsor Gardens, offers his support to his neighbors in various ways. In order to purchase a special pop-up book of London for his aunt Lucy’s milestone birthday from Samuel Gruber’s antique shop, Paddington takes on odd jobs and saves up his earnings. However, he witnesses a burglary at the shop where the book is stolen. Despite chasing after the thief, who turns out to be Phoenix Buchanan – an egotistical actor also residing in Windsor Gardens – Paddington is wrongfully accused and arrested. Despite Mr. Gruber’s testimony in court stating that Paddington could not have committed the crime, there is no evidence to prove it and he is ultimately convicted and sent to prison.
The prison’s chef, known for his short fuse, enlists Paddington’s help after being impressed by his marmalade sandwich recipe. In their quest to clear Paddington’s name, the Browns plaster sketches of the thief all over London. With the aid of a mysterious book, Buchanan uncovers a trail of clues scattered throughout the city’s landmarks that lead to a hidden treasure. Along the way, the Browns come across a fortune teller who reveals that the book holds secrets to the original author’s fortune. Despite Paddington’s efforts to liven up the prison and maintain hope as they continue to search for proof of his innocence, Knuckles and two other inmates named Phibs and Spoon share their doubts about the Browns’ true intentions. They warn Paddington that even though the Browns have good intentions, they may ultimately forget about him.
