Pan (2015)
Director Joe Wright and writer Jason Fuchs collaborated on the American fantasy film, Pan (2015). As a baby, Peter was left at a London orphanage with a mysterious pan flute pendant from his mother Mary. Years later in World War II, Peter and his friend Nibs attempt to steal food from the selfish Mother Barnabas, who has been hoarding resources for herself. During this, they discover a letter from Peter’s mother expressing her love and promising to reunite with him in this or another world. As punishment, Mother Barnabas summons pirates who capture Peter, Nibs, and other orphans. While Nibs escapes, Peter is taken onto a pirate ship that can fly. In a battle with Spitfires, the ship makes its way to Neverland where the children are forced to mine Pixum—a type of Fairy Dust—for Blackbeard who uses it to stay young.
Captured by Blackbeard’s first mate Bishop, Peter encounters another miner named James Hook. After offending Blackbeard’s crew, Peter is ordered to walk the plank above a deep mine, yet manages to survive by taking flight. Blackbeard enlightens Peter about a prophecy among the native tribe that foretells of a flying boy who will lead a rebellion against him, but Peter dismisses it as mere ‘bedtime stories’. He teams up with Hook and his partner-in-crime, Sam ‘Smee’ Smiegel, in stealing a flying vessel and fleeing into the forest. Determined to locate his mother, Peter refuses to leave Neverland. They are discovered by Tiger Lily, daughter of the tribe’s chief, and nearly face execution until Chief Great Little Panther recognizes Peter’s pendant as belonging to their greatest hero – the legendary Pan.
