The film Paper Towns (2015), directed by Jake Schreier and written by Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber, is based on the 2008 novel of the same name by John Green. Quentin ‘Q’ Jacobsen resides in Jefferson Park, a subdivision in Orlando, Florida, just across the street from his childhood friend Margo Roth Spiegelman. Their friendship had faded over nine years since they stumbled upon the body of local lawyer Robert Joyner, who had committed suicide following his divorce. Despite Quentin’s long-standing infatuation with Margo, she is unaware of his feelings as she becomes one of the popular girls known for her daring adventures at Jefferson Park High School. In contrast to Margo’s outgoing nature, Quentin is gentle, unassuming, and unpopular among his peers. His closest friends are fellow outsiders Benjamin ‘Ben’ Starling and Marcus ‘Radar’ Lincoln.

That night, Margo enters Quentin’s room and persuades him to join her for a revenge-filled, all-night adventure. She recently discovered that her boyfriend, Jason ‘Jase’ Worthington, has been cheating on her with one of her friends named Rebecca ‘Becca’ Arrington. Together, Margo and Quentin gather supplies and carry out embarrassing pranks on Jason, Rebecca, and their group of friends. This includes Lacey Pemberton, who happens to be Margo’s best friend. Margo believes Lacey kept the secret of the affair from her, but it is later revealed that Lacey was unaware until she was targeted by one of the pranks. Through this experience, Quentin gains hope for a closer bond with Margo as he learns to assert himself and take risks.
