Pineapple Express (2008)
Pineapple Express (2008) is a buddy stoner action comedy directed by David Gordon Green and written by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. The story takes place in Clark County, the same fictional county from the film Superbad. We meet Dale Denton, a process server and marijuana lover, as he visits his dealer Saul Silver. After trying the rare ‘Pineapple Express’ strain together, Dale heads back to work. However, things take a dramatic turn when he witnesses Ted Jones and officer Carol Brazier kill a Korean gangster. In a panic, Dale discards his Pineapple Express roach, which is later found by Ted’s henchmen Budlofsky and Matheson who trace it back to Red, another dealer who puts them onto Saul. Realizing that they are in danger, Dale and Saul decide to flee the city and hide in the nearby woods. But their escape plan hits a snag when Dale’s car battery dies while they are hiding out.
Dale and Saul pay a visit to Red, who admits that after a physical altercation, Ted is fully aware of their identities and has vowed to eliminate them. In order to obtain information, Budlofsky and Matheson subject Red to torture and eventually shoot him in the abdomen. Fearing for the safety of Dale’s girlfriend Angie, who is still in high school, the pair rush over to her house but are met with opposition from Angie’s father at gunpoint. However, before Budlofsky and Matheson can capture them, Dale and Saul hastily leave and seek refuge at a nearby hotel with Angie and her family. In order to raise money for transportation, they decide to sell their stash of Pineapple Express but their plans are interrupted when Dale is apprehended by Officer Bobbra. Seizing the opportunity, Dale uses his arrest as a means to inform Bobbra about seeing Brazier and Ted commit murder.
