Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End (2007), an American epic fantasy swashbuckler film directed by Gore Verbinski and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, follows the story of Lord Cutler Beckett’s tyrannical rule over the seas. He orders Davy Jones to destroy all pirate ships and executes anyone affiliated with piracy in Port Royal. In response to this threat, nine Pirate Lords are called upon to convene at Shipwreck Cove for the Brethren Court. However, due to Jack Sparrow’s absence and lack of a named successor, Barbossa, Will Turner, Elizabeth Swann, Tia Dalma, and the surviving crew of the Black Pearl can only plot for his rescue from Davy Jones’ Locker. Along their journey, they encounter Pirate Lord Sao Feng in Singapore who has crucial navigational charts to the Locker. Amidst an attack from the East India Trading Company, Will makes a secret promise to give Jack to Feng in exchange for the Pearl which he intends to use for his father’s rescue from the Flying Dutchman.
The crew successfully enters the Locker to rescue Jack and retrieve the Pearl. Along the way, they come across boats carrying souls of the deceased, including Governor Swann who was put to death by Beckett. Davy Jones, under orders from the goddess Calypso, was responsible for guiding these souls to their afterlife. However, his love for a woman led him astray and he was cursed to become a monstrous being. Whoever can stab his disembodied heart will take over as captain of the Dutchman. As they make their way back to the real world, they stop at an island for fresh water but are attacked by Sao Feng and Beckett’s forces. While Jack negotiates with Beckett in secret, Elizabeth is given to Feng who mistakes her for Calypso. The rest of the crew sail towards Shipwreck Cove on the Pearl while Jack deliberately throws Will off the ship as part of his plan to gain control of the Dutchman.
