The American swashbuckler fantasy film, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017), is directed by Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg. In the opening scene, young Henry Turner leaves his home in the dark of night on a rowboat, only to find himself pulled down to the bottom of the sea and inside the cursed ghost ship, the Flying Dutchman. He reunites with his cursed father, Captain Will Turner, and seeks out the fabled Trident of Poseidon to break his father’s curse. However, Will discourages him from this seemingly impossible task and sends him back to his boat. Nine years later, Henry is now a member of the British Royal Navy aboard the Monarch when they head towards the Devil’s Triangle – a treacherous area in the Atlantic Ocean. Henry attempts to warn the captain, but is punished for insubordination and locked up in the brig.
As expected, the warship passes through the rocky walls leading into the Devil’s Triangle. It is quickly ambushed by the undead pirates of the Silent Mary, who systematically defeat each soldier on board. On board the ship is Captain Armando Salazar, who heads down to the brig and notices a wanted poster for Jack Sparrow. He discovers Henry’s cell and orders him to deliver a message to Jack that Salazar is coming for him. At this same time, on St. Martin Island, Carina Smyth finds herself imprisoned on false accusations of witchcraft, despite her intelligence in astronomy and horology. She cleverly picks her lock while talking to a guard, and escapes her cell. Meanwhile, Jack breaks into a bank vault on the island and falls asleep inside it. His crew then attaches ropes to the entire bank and uses horses to pull it through town streets.
