Poison Ivy (1992)
Poison Ivy (1992), the American erotic thriller directed by Katt Shea, follows the story of Sylvie Cooper, a student at a prestigious private school. During their first encounter, Sylvie witnesses Ivy, a less fortunate but street-smart girl, mercifully put down an injured dog. A few days later, when they cross paths again, Ivy asks for a ride from Sylvie’s father Darryl who reluctantly agrees. As she sits in the front seat with him on their way home, she deliberately draws his attention to her legs by casually placing them on the dashboard and adjusting her mini-skirt. Darryl can’t help but notice. Eventually, Sylvie invites Ivy over to her house where she reveals that Darryl adopted her and that her biological father is African-American. She also confesses to once attempting suicide. On this visit, they meet Georgie – Sylvie’s sickly mother – who Ivy impresses by discussing her scholarship and helping her unblock her oxygen tank.
Shortly after, as Sylvie’s parents take a liking to Ivy, she practically becomes a permanent resident. The two girls not only share clothes but also Sylvie’s bed. With their similar body types, Georgie even lends some of her clothes to Ivy. In an effort to revive his fading career, Darryl throws a party at the house and asks for Sylvie’s assistance. However, Ivy manipulates the situation by arranging to work that night so she can help Darryl instead. After the party, she and Darryl dance in the kitchen and end up embracing each other. Unfortunately, Georgie walks in on them and is enraged before storming off upstairs. Ivy quickly apologizes, claiming that Darryl was simply under stress and she was comforting him. Georgie reluctantly believes her story and even accepts a glass of champagne from Ivy, not realizing it has been drugged with sleeping pills, causing her to doze off shortly after.
