Poseidon (2006)
Poseidon (2006), directed and co-produced by Wolfgang Petersen, is a gripping American action disaster film. This thrilling adaptation of Paul Gallico’s 1969 novel, The Poseidon Adventure, is loosely based on the 1972 version. The lavish RMS Poseidon is embarking on a voyage across the Atlantic Ocean. Among the passengers are former New York City Mayor and firefighter Robert Ramsey, traveling with his daughter Jennifer and her boyfriend Christian Sanders who are soon to be engaged. Also on board are former Navy submariner turned professional gambler Dylan Johns, architect Richard Nelson, widowed Maggie James and her son Conor, stowaway Elena Morales, waiter Marco Valentine, singer Gloria and Captain Michael Bradford. As they celebrate New Year’s Eve with a grand party, officers on the bridge spot a colossal rogue wave heading toward the ship.
In an attempt to survive the powerful wave’s impact, they steer the ship to starboard but it doesn’t turn quickly enough. As the ship capsizes, the wave takes down both crew and passengers, including the bridge officers. Amidst the chaos, Captain Bradford, who is injured, struggles to maintain order and reassure survivors that help is coming. Despite his efforts to convince them otherwise, Dylan leads a group consisting of Conor, Maggie, Robert, Richard, and Valentine towards the front of the ship in hopes of finding a way to escape. As they climb upwards, they encounter an elevator shaft and narrowly avoid falling when Nelson and Valentine attempt to join them on the upper level but end up hanging on for dear life.
