Predator (1987) is an American science fiction action film directed by John McTiernan and written by brothers Jim and John Thomas. An alien spacecraft deploys a shuttle to Earth, where Vietnam War veteran Major Alan ‘Dutch’ Schaefer and his military rescue team are tasked with saving a foreign cabinet minister and his aide from insurgents in an unspecified South American country. Accompanying Dutch’s team is CIA officer Al Dillon, despite Dutch’s objections. As they make their way, the team discovers the wreckage of a helicopter and three skinned corpses, which Dutch recognizes as Green Berets he knew. This raises suspicion about Dillon’s intentions. Upon reaching the guerilla camp, the team witnesses the execution of a hostage, prompting them to launch an attack that results in casualties on both sides.
Dutch confronts Dillon, who reveals their true mission was to stop a planned Soviet-backed invasion and that the CIA had sent the Green Berets for the same purpose weeks prior. Anna, the only surviving guerrilla, is captured, but as more rebels approach, the team decides to make their way to the extraction point. However, they soon realize that they are being followed by an unseen entity using advanced technology. Billy catches a glimpse of it and becomes frightened, causing Anna to attempt an escape. Hawkins manages to catch her, but he is unexpectedly attacked and killed by the creature. Despite this tragedy, Dutch rallies his team and begins organizing a search party. Unfortunately, Blain falls victim to the creature’s powerful plasma cannon before they can find it. In a fit of rage, Mac prompts everyone to shoot blindly into the jungle in an attempt to wound their pursuer.
