Predator 2 (1990)

The movie Predator 2 (1990) is a science fiction action film written by Jim and John Thomas and directed by Stephen Hopkins. It takes place in Los Angeles ten years after the events of the first film and centers around a police officer who teams up with others to fight against an alien creature known as the Predator. The story is set during a heat wave in 1997 and follows a turf war between Colombian and Jamaican drug cartels. As the police engage in a shootout with these groups, the Predator watches from a distance. Witnessing Lieutenant Harrigan’s bravery as he rescues two officers and pushes back the Colombians, the Predator attacks them. This disturbance leads Harrigan, Cantrell, and Archuleta to defy orders and enter the hideout where they discover the slaughtered Colombians. On the rooftop, Harrigan takes down the crazed gang leader and briefly spots a disguised Predator. He attributes this sighting to the blazing heat and his fear of heights.

Back at the station, his higher-ups scold him for defying orders and introduce him to Special Agent Peter Keyes, who is leading a team investigating the cartels, and Detective Jerry Lambert, the newest member of Harrigan’s squad. That night, Jamaican intruders break into the Colombian drug lord’s penthouse and kill him before meeting their own demise at hands of the Predator. Upon reaching the scene, Harrigan’s team notes similarities between this attack and the earlier massacre in Colombia. However, Keyes’s team arrives and takes over. Despite this, Archuleta returns alone and discovers one of the Predator’s spear tips before being killed by it. Enraged by his colleague’s death, Harrigan makes a vow to take down Archuleta’s murderer. Meanwhile, forensics uncover that the spear tip is made up of an unknown element not found on any periodic table.
