Prey (2022)

Prey (2022) is a sci-fi action flick within the Predator franchise. As the fifth installment in the mainline series and seventh in the overall franchise, it follows Naru, a young Comanche woman with dreams of becoming a skilled hunter like her brother Taabe. While tracking deer with her dog Sarii, Naru catches sight of an alien Predator’s spacecraft, mistaking it for a Thunderbird and seeing it as a challenge to prove herself. When a member of their tribe is attacked by a mountain lion, Taabe allows Naru to join the search party on the condition that she helps track the cougar and provide medical aid if needed. Despite retrieving the injured hunter, Paake, Taabe stays behind to hunt down and kill the attacking mountain lion. After finding suspiciously large tracks and an expertly skinned rattlesnake, Naru circles back with Paake only to discover that Taabe has been killed by the mountain lion they were pursuing.

Naru confronts the large feline on the tree branch, but is thrown off balance when she hears strange noises and sees bright lights coming from the Predator in the distance. She tumbles to the ground, hitting her head. Later, she wakes up safe at home, thanks to Taabe’s help. He returns to the village with the dead mountain lion and is hailed as War Chief. Realizing there may be an unknown danger lurking, Naru sets off with Sarii. Along their journey, they come across a field of skinned bison and Naru offers a prayer for their spirits, confused by the senseless destruction. They also encounter a treacherous mud pit that nearly swallows Naru before she manages to escape. As they flee for their lives, a grizzly bear attacks them, only to be killed by the Predator, giving Naru a chance to escape. She eventually runs into a group of Comanche searching for her and witnesses the Predator wiping them out in battle. Meanwhile, she becomes trapped in a foothold while trying to escape and can only watch as the Predator leaves, no longer considering her a threat.
