Project: ALF (1996), an American made-for-television science fiction film directed by Dick Lowry, picks up where the final episode of the sitcom ALF left off. The story follows Gordon Shumway, or ALF for short, as he is taken into custody by the US Air Force’s Alien Task Force (ATF) while trying to leave Earth. Colonel Gilbert Milfoil, head of security for ATF, has ordered that ALF be detained at Edmonds Air Force Base. Despite initial concerns, ALF is actually doing quite well in captivity. He spends his time hosting poker games with his guards and selling concessions to make some extra cash. His living quarters have even been compared to a bachelor pad. In fact, he has so many possessions that they can fill an entire aircraft hangar.
With full autonomy, Milfoil plans to execute his prisoner by disguising it as a beauty treatment. He has created incriminating evidence pointing to his aide de camp, Second Lieutenant Harold Reese. During their conversation, they touch on ALF’s connection with the Tanner family who relocated to Iceland through the Witness Protection Program. Upon discovering this, two Air Force scientists, Major Melissa Hill and Captain Rick Mullican, aid in ALF’s escape and they seek refuge at a budget motel. Due to ALF’s bothersome behavior, he is instructed to hide in the restroom, which brings back memories of when the Tanners would do the same. Refusing to give up his luxuries, ALF sneaks out and reaches out to one of his previous guards in hopes of arranging a supply drop.
