Project Blue Book (2019–2020) is an American historical drama that delves into the covert operations of the U.S. government in the aftermath of WWII. Following Captain Michael Quinn and Dr. Allen Hynek as they investigate UFO sightings, their mission is to either debunk or provide rational explanations for these reports. While Quinn remains focused on completing his assigned task, Hynek becomes increasingly convinced that a dangerous conspiracy lurks behind the sightings. At the same time, as Cold War fears grip the nation, a charming blonde forms a bond with Hynek’s isolated wife. Drawing from real-life records and events from one of the most enigmatic periods in American history, each episode blends UFO theories with authentic historical details from Project Blue Book’s top-secret investigations into unexplained phenomena during the 1950s and ’60s.
In 1952, Dr J. Allen Hynek joins Project Blue Book, a US Air Force investigation into UFOs. He teams up with Captain Michael Quinn to look into a reported dogfight between pilot Henry Fuller and an alien craft in Fargo. Upon reaching Fargo, the pair meets with Fuller and inspects his plane. Outside of their investigation, Allen’s wife, Mimi, befriends Susie Miller during a shopping trip. Initially, both parties believe that Fuller mistook a weather balloon for a UFO. However, as time passes, Hynek begins to question this explanation. In an attempt to prove his doubts wrong and recreate Fuller’s flight, Quinn takes Hynek on a flight which ends in them crashing in a field where they spot a figure that vanishes quickly. This encounter troubles Hynek and his conversation with Fuller in the hospital only adds to it. On their way home, they are tailed by an unfamiliar black car which leads them to an abandoned fairground hiding some kind of classified facility. Meanwhile, Susie seems to be following them closely while Fuller is being taken from the hospital against his will. The reported UFO sighting is loosely based on the Gorman dogfight incident.
