Project X (2012)
Project X (2012) is an American coming-of-age film directed by Nima Nourizadeh, written by Michael Bacall and Matt Drake, and produced by Todd Phillips. In Pasadena, high-school students Costa and J.B. plan a party for their friend Thomas’s 17th birthday in order to boost their social status. With his parents out of town for the weekend, Thomas is left alone at home with strict instructions not to invite too many people or drive his father’s luxury car. Though hesitant about hosting the party at his house, Thomas’s friend Costa forges ahead with his plans and enlists A/V student Dax to document the night’s festivities. While Costa, J.B., and Dax spread the word about the party around school, Thomas himself invites his best friend Kirby (who has feelings for him) and Alexis (a popular girl he has a crush on).
While shopping for party supplies, the boys are surprised to run into actor Miles Teller. With nervous excitement, they invite him to the party, only to find out that he’s already heard about it and plans to attend. In search of marijuana, the trio pays a visit to drug dealer T-Rick. During their visit, Costa grabs a lawn gnome to use as a party mascot without T-Rick’s knowledge. As they make their escape in Thomas’s mini-van, T-Rick realizes his gnome is missing and chases after them. Eventually, they manage to evade him and make it back home just as night falls. However, with no guests showing up for the party and Thomas worrying it will be a failure, all hope seems lost. Suddenly, a large group of people arrive, including Miles Teller himself.
