Produced by Pixar Animation Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, the film follows Purl, an anthropomorphic pink-colored ball of yarn who lands an entry-level position at B.R.O. Capital. However, her excitement dwindles when she realizes that her colleagues barely acknowledge her efforts to fit in. Feeling left out and observing that the company’s capital team consists solely of white men in matching power suits and hairstyles, Purl decides to change her appearance and personality to match theirs.
Upon the return of her colleagues, Purl seamlessly blends in with the group and catches the attention of her coworkers, who invite her to join them for drinks. Just before they leave, a new ball of yarn named Lacy arrives at the office to start her job. Seeing Lacy being overlooked as well, Purl takes it upon herself to befriend her and extend an invitation to join their outing. As time goes by, Purl reverts back to her original appearance and B.R.O. Capital is seen as a workplace where men and balls of yarn work together harmoniously as a diverse team.
