Rain Man (1988) is an American road comedy-drama film, directed by Barry Levinson and written by Barry Morrow and Ronald Bass. Collectibles dealer Charlie Babbitt has imported four grey market Lamborghinis to Los Angeles for resale. The cars are being held at the port by the EPA due to failing emission tests, causing Charlie stress as he needs to deliver them to buyers who have already made down payments. He directs one of his employees to deceive the buyers while he deals with his creditor. Amidst this chaos, Charlie receives news of his estranged father Sanford Babbitt’s passing and travels with his girlfriend Susanna to Cincinnati to settle the estate. Ultimately, Charlie inherits only a group of rosebushes and a classic 1949 Buick Roadmaster convertible that he had clashed over with his father.

The remaining $3 million of the estate is being entrusted to an unnamed trustee. Upon discovering that the funds are being funneled to a nearby mental facility, Charlie is shocked to discover he has an older brother named Raymond, who has autism and is highly skilled yet emotionally distant. Feeling disheartened by Charlie’s actions, Susanna decides to leave him. In order to regain control of the inheritance, Charlie attempts to take custody of Raymond with the help of Dr. Gerald Bruner, but his request is denied. Determined to reunite with his brother and secure their financial future, Charlie takes matters into his own hands and spirits Raymond away from the institution for a night in a hotel.
