Rambo: First Blood Part II (1985) is a United States adventure movie directed by George P. Cosmatos and co-written by Sylvester Stallone. Three years have passed since the events in Hope, Washington, where former U.S. Army Green Beret John Rambo finds himself imprisoned at a labor facility. Former commanding officer Colonel Sam Trautman visits Rambo to reveal some concerning news- that there are still American prisoners of war being held captive in Vietnam. In an effort to appease public demand for action, the government has approved a solo infiltration mission to confirm these reports, offering Rambo a temporary reinstatement into the Army as incentive. With the promise of a pardon for his past actions, Rambo agrees to take on the dangerous mission. He is soon taken to Thailand, where he meets helicopter pilot Ericson, his partner Lifer, and Marshall Murdock- the bureaucratic head overseeing the operation.
Rambo’s mission was clear: photograph the suspected POW camp and report back, without engaging enemy forces or attempting a rescue. The actual extraction of the POWs would take place upon Rambo’s safe return. As he surveilled the area, Rambo couldn’t help but notice Colonel Murdock falsely claiming to have served in Vietnam. He confided in Trautman, revealing that the Colonel was the only person he trusted. Finally, it was time for his aerial insertion. But as he attempted to jump from the airplane, his parachute became entangled in the door. In a split-second decision, Rambo had no choice but to cut himself free and let go of most of his equipment – leaving him with only his trusty knives, bow and arrows. Co Bao, Rambo’s assigned Vietnamese intelligence agent contact, had arranged for local river pirates to transport them upriver towards their destination.
