Rambo: Last Blood (2019)

Rambo: Last Blood (2019) is an American action film directed by Adrian Grünberg. Co-written by Matthew Cirulnick and Sylvester Stallone, from a story by Dan Gordon and Stallone, the movie is based on the character John Rambo created by author David Morrell for his novel First Blood. As the fifth installment in the Rambo franchise, it serves as a sequel to Rambo (2008). Following the events in Burma eleven years ago, Vietnam War veteran John Rambo now resides at his deceased father’s horse ranch in Bowie, Arizona. He manages the ranch with his old friend, Maria Beltran, and her granddaughter, Gabriela. However, Gabriela’s friend Gizelle informs them about finding Gabriela’s irresponsible father, Manuel, in Mexico. Despite their objections, Gabriela travels to Mexico secretly with Gizelle and confronts Manuel at his apartment. In response to her questions about abandoning her and her mother, Manuel reveals that he never truly cared for either of them.

Gizelle accompanies a heartbroken Gabriela to a nearby club, where she is later drugged and abducted by the enforcers of a Mexican cartel. Upon discovering Gabriela’s disappearance, Rambo rushes to Mexico and interrogates both Manuel and Gizelle for information on her whereabouts. Although hesitant, Gizelle eventually leads Rambo to the club where Gabriela was last seen. There, he confronts El Flaco, the man who had recently spoken with Gabriela. As he follows El Flaco, Rambo is shadowed by a mysterious woman named Carmen Delgado. Eventually, they reach the supposed location of Gabriela, but are met with resistance from the cartel led by brothers Hugo and Victor Martinez. During the confrontation, Rambo is beaten and marked by the cartel after they find his driver’s license and a photo of Gabriela in his possession. Victor recognizes her and vows to harm her even more in retaliation for Rambo’s actions.
