Ratatouille (2007)
Ratatouille (2007) is a delightful American animated film produced by Pixar Animation Studios for Walt Disney Pictures. Remy, a young rat with extraordinary taste and smell abilities, dreams of becoming a chef like his human idol, the late Auguste Gusteau. However, his fellow colony members including his brother Émile and father Django, only eat for survival and are cautious of humans. The rats inhabit an elderly woman’s attic outside Paris but are forced to flee when she discovers them, leaving Remy alone. With guidance from his imaginary Gusteau, he ventures out onto the roof of Gusteau’s restaurant. There he notices Alfredo Linguini, the new garbage boy, struggling to fix a soup he had ruined earlier. Without hesitation, Remy jumps in to help correct Linguini’s mistakes.
Linguini catches Remy in the act, but refrains from revealing him to Skinner, the former sous-chef of Gusteau’s and current restaurant owner. When confronted by Skinner about the tampered soup, Linguini remains silent. However, when the unintentionally improved soup is served and proves to be a success, Colette Tatou, the only female chef at the restaurant, convinces Skinner to keep Linguini on staff, in line with Gusteau’s famous words, ‘Anyone can cook’. After being tasked with replicating the soup, Skinner catches sight of Remy. In a private moment, Linguini discovers that Remy can communicate with him and persuades Remy to help him prepare meals. By using Linguini’s hair as a means of control while hidden under his hat, Remy guides Linguini’s movements like a marionette. The two continue working at the restaurant and successfully recreate the soup. Initially hesitant, Colette begins begrudgingly training Linguini but gradually grows to appreciate someone who listens to her advice.
