Ratchet & Clank (2016)
In an animated sci-fi comedy film, Ratchet & Clank (2016), produced by Rainmaker Entertainment and distributed by Gramercy Pictures, Chairman Drek and his Blarg people are systematically destroying multiple planets in the Solana Galaxy to build their new home, New Quartu. This plan is necessary as their current home, Quartu, has become uninhabitable due to pollution. However, the destruction catches the attention of the Galactic Rangers – a group dedicated to maintaining peace. A broken warbot from Drek’s factory on Quartu escapes during a power outage and goes to Kerwan to warn the Rangers about his builder’s intentions. After crash-landing on Veldin, he meets Ratchet – a young lombax mechanic – who names him Clank. Together, they travel to Kerwan and successfully save the Rangers from Drek’s army of warbots. The pair quickly becomes famous for their heroism, putting pressure on Ranger captain Captain Qwark to name them honorary members.
Envious of Ratchet and Clank’s success, Qwark is approached by Drek to assist him in exchange for a promise to spare the other Rangers. Reluctantly, Qwark agrees and sabotages the Rangers’ weapons during their attack on Drek’s Deplanetizer. While the Rangers battle Drek’s ally, Victor Von Ion, Clank uses a weather-manipulating weapon to defeat him. Meanwhile, Drek destroys Novalis but is then ambushed by his own colleague, Doctor Nefarious (who betrayed Qwark). In a desperate move, Nefarious transforms Drek into a sheep and ejects him onto New Quartu before seizing control of the Deplanetizer. His ultimate goal: to seek revenge against Qwark for how he was treated when they were both Rangers. To achieve this, he plans to destroy the unstable core of Umbris, causing a catastrophic chain reaction that would obliterate all nearby planets in the Solana Galaxy.
