Rectify (2013–2016) is an American television drama that follows the life of a man who is released from death row after being wrongfully convicted and serving almost 20 years in prison. It was created by Ray McKinnon and marks the first original series for SundanceTV. Originally set to air on AMC with Walton Goggins as the lead, the series began development in 2008. After three years, it was officially picked up by sister channel SundanceTV for six episodes as their first scripted series. Production for season two took place in Griffin, Georgia starting on February 3, 2014. The final season began filming in April 2016.
Daniel Holden, who was convicted of killing his 16-year-old girlfriend Hanna when he was a teenager, spent nineteen years on death row. However, after new analysis of DNA evidence cast doubt on the prosecution’s case, an appeals court overturns his original conviction. As a result, Daniel is able to return to his hometown of Paulie, Georgia. This sets in motion a series of events that deeply affect not only Daniel but also his extended family and the townspeople. The unfolding story delves into the complexities of these characters’ lives in a slow-burning Southern Gothic style.
