The American action comedy film, Red (2010), draws inspiration from the limited series of the same name in DC Comics. Frank Moses, a retired CIA black ops agent living in the suburbs, seizes every opportunity to chat with Sarah Ross, a pension call center employee. When an assassination squad targets Frank at his home, he takes them out and rushes to Sarah’s house for her safety. Despite his efforts to convince her to leave with him, Sarah stubbornly refuses and so Frank resorts to taking her hostage. In the meantime, CIA agent William Cooper receives orders from Cynthia Wilkes to eliminate Frank. Seeking assistance from his former mentor Joe, Frank discovers that the same squad had also killed a New York reporter. As Sarah breaks free and contacts 9-1-1, she unknowingly reveals their location to Cooper.
Frank rescues her from danger and together they flee in a car. They make their way to New York City to investigate the murder of a journalist. A list of names is found among the journalist’s possessions, most of whom have recently passed away. With concerns for their safety, Frank reaches out to Joe, only to learn that Joe has also been killed. In Florida, they seek out retired agent Marvin Boggs, whose name is on the list. Through their collaboration, they discover that all the names are connected to an undercover mission that took place in Guatemala back in 1981. To uncover more information, they search for Gabriel Singer, who was the pilot during the mission. Sadly, he is assassinated by a sniper before he can share any valuable information with them. Frank, Marvin and Sarah manage to escape and continue their pursuit for answers.
