Reign of Fire (2002) is a post-apocalyptic science fantasy film directed by Rob Bowman. During one of his visits to a London Underground construction site, Quinn Abercromby witnesses the awakening of a massive dragon from its dormant state. Tragically, most of the workers are killed by its fiery breath, leaving Quinn as the sole survivor. His mother Karen, who was also working on the project, sacrifices her life to protect him. After emerging from the Underground, the dragon is soon joined by others and humanity finds itself on the brink of extinction. Despite numerous attempts by military forces to stop their spread with nuclear weapons, the dragons continue to flourish and become increasingly aggressive as they search for food. In this dire situation, Quinn takes refuge at Bamburgh Castle with his best friend Creedy and a group of survivors.
Together, they plan to outlast the dragons until they return to hibernation – a plan that he shares with Jared, an orphan he has taken under his wing and is grooming to be their future leader. The community is facing a shortage of supplies and unrest as they await their meager harvest. Eddie and his followers commandeer a truck to gather the crops for sustenance, but encounter a dragon. Quinn, Creedy, and Jared successfully fend off the dragon’s attack, but unfortunately it destroys most of the crops, leaving the community without food. Soon after, an American group led by Denton Van Zan arrives with heavy weaponry and vehicles including a Chieftain tank and an AgustaWestland AW109 utility helicopter.
