Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City (2021) is an action horror film written and directed by Johannes Roberts. Based on the first and second games by Capcom, it serves as a reboot of the popular Resident Evil film series, marking the seventh live-action adaptation of the iconic video game franchise. In the 1980s, siblings Claire Redfield and Chris reside at Raccoon City Orphanage. There, Claire befriends Lisa Trevor, an unfortunate victim of Dr. William Birkin’s twisted experiments. As an employee of Umbrella Corporation, Birkin oversees the orphanage and conducts his own unethical research using the children as subjects. Despite their young age, Claire is forced to participate in one of these experiments and narrowly escapes from Birkin’s clutches. Years later in 1998, Claire returns to Raccoon City by hitchhiking on a semi-truck. Along the way, she witnesses strange occurrences that hint at Umbrella’s malicious activities within this seemingly ordinary town. When she reaches Chris’s home, she shares her findings with him, relying on journalist Ben Bertolucci as her source for information about Umbrella’s wrongdoings.
Once Chris departs for the police station, a young child breaks into the house, fleeing from his aggressive mother. A chaotic and bloody scene ensues as Claire is attacked by both individuals. In a daring escape, Claire hops onto Chris’s motorcycle. Meanwhile, at the police station, the STARS Alpha team meets with Chief Brian Irons. He reveals that Bravo team has gone missing after investigating a death at Spencer Mansion, located in a remote area. The team, consisting of Chris, Jill Valentine, Richard Aiken, Brad Vickers, and Albert Wesker, is ordered to fly to the mansion via helicopter to conduct further investigation. Little do his fellow teammates know, Wesker is secretly working for an unknown group and tasked with stealing Birkin’s virus. Utilizing his inside knowledge of the mansion, he leads the way for the team. Upon entering the mansion, Chris and Richard come face to face with zombies devouring members of Bravo team while Brad falls victim to a zombie bite and crashes their helicopter into the mansion during his attempt to escape.
