Rio (2011)

Rio (2011), an American animated musical adventure comedy film produced by Blue Sky Studios and 20th Century Fox Animation, follows the story of Blu – an orphaned male Spix’s macaw hatchling who was illegally brought to Moose Lake, Minnesota. After being discovered by Linda Gunderson, Blu becomes her beloved pet for fifteen years despite his inability to fly and constant teasing from Canada geese. However, when ornithologist Túlio Monteiro invites them to Rio de Janeiro to mate with the last female of their species, Linda and Blu embark on a wild journey. There, Blu meets Jewel – a strong-willed macaw who dreams of returning to the wild. But things take a turn for the worse when they are captured by smugglers led by Marcel who aim to sell them on the black market. Can Blu and Jewel escape their fate?

As Fernando reflects on his actions, Nigel confides in the macaws about his dislike for pretty birds due to being replaced by a parakeet on TV. Blu and Jewel use their knowledge of cages to flee their captors, but are hindered by legcuffs, forcing them to travel on foot. The next day, Fernando assists Linda and Túlio in searching for the macaws, while Blu and Jewel meet up with Rafael the toucan and his bulldog pal Luiz. In an attempt to teach Blu how to fly, Rafael’s efforts prove fruitless. Along their journey, they also encounter Pedro the red-crested cardinal and his canary friend Nico. Meanwhile, Nigel enlists a group of thieving marmosets led by Mauro to capture Blu and Jewel. In an effort to improve harmony between the two macaws, Pedro and Nico take them to a lively samba dance party where their relationship blossoms – until the marmosets interrupt. After narrowly escaping on a tram, the five birds continue their adventure together.
