Risky Business (1983)
Risky Business (1983), an American coming-of-age comedy film by Paul Brickman, revolves around Joel Goodsen, a high-achieving high school student living in the wealthy area of Glencoe, Chicago North Shore with his parents. While his father hopes for him to attend Princeton University, Joel is involved in Future Enterprisers, an extracurricular activity where students collaborate to develop small businesses. When his parents are away on a trip, Joel’s friend Miles encourages him to take advantage of his newfound freedom. One night, Joel indulges by rummaging through the liquor cabinet, blasting music on the stereo system, taking his father’s car for a joyride and dancing in nothing but briefs and a button-down shirt to ‘Old Time Rock and Roll’. However, things get uncomfortable when he hires male cross-dresser Jackie as an escort. Despite paying him off to leave, Jackie leaves Joel with the number of another prostitute – Lana.
That night, Joel tosses and turns unable to fall asleep. He finally decides to call Lana, the stunning blonde he met earlier that day. They spend the entire night together but when morning comes, Lana asks for $300 for her services. Joel heads to the bank and upon returning, discovers that Lana has disappeared along with his mother’s prized Steuben glass egg. Determined to get it back, Joel tracks down Lana and demands its return. However, their exchange is interrupted by Guido, her pimp who pulls out a gun. Joel manages to escape in his father’s Porsche 928 while being chased by Guido. Later on, Lana reveals that she left the egg with her other belongings at Guido’s place. Feeling guilty, Joel offers to let Lana stay at his house while he goes to school. When he returns home, he finds that Lana has invited another prostitute named Vicki to stay as well, but Joel declines the proposition.
