Rock of Ages (2012) is a film directed by Adam Shankman, based on the Broadway musical by Chris D’Arienzo. Set in 1987 Los Angeles, Sherrie Christian arrives from Oklahoma with hopes of becoming a singer. However, her suitcase is stolen and she is left stranded. Drew Boley, a barback at the Bourbon Room, helps her out by getting her a job as a waitress after the previous one quits (‘Sister Christian/Just Like Paradise/Nothin’ But a Good Time’). The Bourbon Room, facing financial troubles due to tax debt, desperately books Stacee Jaxx, a self-centered rock star who is about to perform his final show with his band Arsenal. Aspiring rockstar Drew confides in Sherrie about his stage fright (‘Juke Box Hero/I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll’).
Upon hearing about Stacee’s highly anticipated concert, Patricia Whitmore, the wife of mayor Mike Whitmore, immediately took it upon herself to organize a protest outside of the club hosting the event (‘Hit Me with Your Best Shot’). Drew and Sherrie’s first date takes place at the iconic Hollywood Sign, during which Drew reveals that he is in fact writing a song specifically for Sherrie (‘Don’t Stop Believin’). As luck would have it, on the night of Arsenal’s final show, Dennis receives news that their scheduled opening act has cancelled. However, thanks to Sherrie’s persuasion skills, they are able to secure Drew’s band, Wolfgang Von Colt (‘More Than Words/Heaven’), as a replacement. Stacee’s manager, Paul Gill, arranges for an interview with music journalist Constance Sack from Rolling Stone.
