Ronin (1998)
Ronin (1998) is a American action thriller film directed by John Frankenheimer. At a bistro in Montmartre, IRA operative Deirdre meets with two Americans, Sam and Larry, a Frenchman named Vincent, an Englishman called Spence, and a German named Gregor. The group is comprised of ex-government agents or former military members now working as mercenaries. Deirdre assigns them with the mission to steal a mysterious metallic briefcase from a heavily guarded convoy. Before carrying out the main mission, they must first acquire weapons, but this proves to be a trap. Despite surviving the setup and obtaining the weapons, Sam exposes Spence as an impostor.
After being dismissed by Deirdre, the rest of the team carries on with their mission. Meanwhile, Deirdre meets with her handler, Seamus O’Rourke, who shares that the Russian mafia is vying for the case and it’s crucial for them to take action. While staking out the area, Sam and Deirdre act on their mutual attraction. Ultimately, the team successfully ambushes the convoy at La Turbie and chases the remaining members to Nice. In the midst of a heated gunfight, Gregor seizes the case and vanishes. He then arranges to sell it to the Russians, but his contact attempts to betray him. Gregor takes matters into his own hands and eliminates the contact before convincing Mikhi – head of the Russian mafia involved in the deal – to arrange another meeting.
