Rush (2013)
The biographical sports film Rush (2013) delves into the intense competition between two Formula One drivers during the 1976 motor-racing season. James Hunt, a confident and bold personality, and Niki Lauda, a methodical and precise technical genius, are both exceptional behind the wheel. They first encounter each other as rivals in 1970 at a London Formula Three race where Hunt ultimately secures victory despite both cars spinning out. Lauda secures a loan from Raiffeisen Bank in Austria to join the BRM Formula One team, where he meets teammate Clay Regazzoni for the first time. At the same time, Hesketh Racing, Hunt’s racing team, also enters Formula One. Eventually, Lauda becomes part of Scuderia Ferrari alongside Regazzoni and claims his first championship title in 1975.
After failing to secure a sponsor, Hesketh shuts down while Hunt joins the McLaren team. During this period, Hunt marries supermodel Suzy Miller, while Lauda becomes involved with German socialite Marlene Knaus. As the 1976 season begins, Lauda dominates the first two races while Hunt struggles to catch up. He does manage to win the Spanish Grand Prix, but it is taken away after his car is found to be too wide in a post-race inspection. McLaren faces difficulties staying within F1 regulations and experiences several setbacks in racing. To make matters worse for Hunt, Suzy begins a relationship with actor Richard Burton following their divorce. However, renewed drive and determination propel Hunt back into championship contention when his disqualification in Spain is overturned and points are restored.
