Samaritan (2022)
Samaritan (2022) is an American superhero film directed by Julius Avery and written by Bragi F. Schut. It offers a fresh, dark perspective on the genre, previously explored in the Mythos Comics graphic novels by Schut, Marc Olivent, and Renzo Podesta. The story centers around superhumans Samaritan and Nemesis, twin brothers with opposing goals. After their home was destroyed by the community of Granite City, they managed to escape while their parents perished in the fire. Samaritan chose to become a superhero to prove that he is not defined by his past, while Nemesis sought revenge and became a supervillain determined to make others suffer like their parents did. In their epic battle, Nemesis gained an advantage with a mystical sledgehammer he created, but it proved to be dangerous for both brothers.
In a fierce confrontation at the city’s power plant, both parties met their demise as the explosion shook the city and left it in complete darkness. Despite this tragic event, there are still many loyal followers of Samaritan who refuse to believe that he is gone for good. Even after twenty five years, the whispers of his possible survival continue to circulate. Meanwhile, thirteen-year-old Sam Cleary is struggling to support his family amidst a financial crisis. Desperate to avoid eviction, he reluctantly accepts a job from Reza, a notorious gang leader. However, things take an unexpected turn and Reza attempts to pin the blame on Sam. But Cyrus, the true head of the gang, recognizes Sam’s potential and personally rewards him with $110. Seeking revenge for their failed plan, Reza and his cronies target Sam but are foiled by Joe Smith, a garbage collector living across from Sam’s apartment.
