San Andreas (2015)
In the disaster film, San Andreas (2015), directed by Brad Peyton and written by Carlton Cuse, we follow the journey of Caltech seismologist Dr. Lawrence Hayes. Along with his colleague, Dr. Kim Park, he is conducting tests at Hoover Dam using a new earthquake prediction model. However, their plans are disrupted when an unknown fault suddenly ruptures nearby, causing a catastrophic 7.1-magnitude earthquake that destroys the dam. Despite Park’s heroic sacrifice to save a young girl, he is swept away by the ensuing flood. As Hayes investigates further, he discovers that the entire San Andreas Fault has shifted and is on track to cause several more massive earthquakes that could potentially devastate cities along its path.
In a race against time, Hayes teams up with his students Alexi and Phoebe and reporter Serena Johnson to warn the population of California about the impending danger. When a 9.1-magnitude earthquake strikes both Los Angeles and San Francisco, Ray Gaines, a chief rescue helicopter pilot for the LAFD, must save his wife Emma from a skyscraper in LA while they are going through a divorce. Meanwhile, their daughter Blake is in San Francisco with Emma’s new boyfriend, Daniel. Suddenly, the city is hit by an earthquake and Daniel leaves Blake trapped under rubble from a collapsed parking garage. Luckily, British engineer Ben Taylor and his brother Ollie come to her rescue and together they make it to Chinatown where they are able to contact her parents for assistance.
